What is endodontics?
Endodontics is otherwise known as root canal treatment, root canal therapy or root filling. An endodontic treatment is the process of removing damaged or infected tissue, called the pulp, from inside the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels that help to nourish the tooth. Once the pulp has successfully been removed, the chambers and root canals are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected by your dentist. The tooth will then be filled and sealed to form a natural-looking tooth and maintain the remaining tooth structure.
Root canal specialists
At Hanover Dental Care in Vermont South, our experienced team of dentists can free your painful tooth from infection.
Some patients may not feel pain in the early stages of an infection but there are signs that could suggest a root canal treatment is necessary including:
- Pain or throbbing when biting
- Regular sensitivity to hot and cold food
- Severe decay
- An abscess or infection in the bone
- Facial swelling
- Change of colour in the tooth
Endodontics or root canal treatment is usually carried out under local anaesthetic to ensure you can’t feel anything during the procedure. Depending on your situation, root canal treatment is usually carried out over two appointments.
Having saved hundreds of teeth since opening our dental clinic in 1983, you can be confident that you’re in the best possible hands at Hanover Dental Care.
